Called it. And Lancelot, I don’t think he’s playing her here. He’s just trying to do what he can to fix a world that’s gone totally to hell. And he doesn’t really have access to many tools friendly to our current ethical framework.
Look at my first post on the last page for a more complex explanation of that, I’m not putting it all down again.
decided to poke the trolls who think girls can’t hack video games. or hacking.
ya know, for da lulz. (check de archives, poking at woot and the other trollz.)
I plan to make it up to you. But before this, I need to humiliate you some more. And scare you shitless. Cause I need a dramatical, movie-like scene. To create suspense.
Sorry, the symbolism excuse isn’t good enough. BTW that’s an answer to you too Jamie…
So this guy may infact be a good guy or this mite be part of a bigger sceme. Also in a conflict as grey as this war is there maybe good guys on both sides.
Symbolism… I know a few highly educated people who take symbolism very seriously even in today’s world, so I see that as a valid reason. This page was a bit unexpected for me and the future intriguing.
I understand what the point was in this instance… however, it was handled about as well as Dan Slott writing the current crop of Spider-Man comics.
Which is to say, VERY badly.
I’m not looking for special treatment or to have things made up to me or anything like that, but I honestly cannot read this entry nor the last without feeling my stomach churn. If the entire point of this was to show the power that this guy has then it was already established as this one sole man is in control of an entire facility of women, used Hammer as a human shield against the Captaiin, has sent children out into battle, and has hold of vital, secret information that has the powers that be on Earth in fear. Hammer has been beatened, tortured, her hand chopped off, and has been a prisoner of war for well over a year now and otherwise been treated so badly she barely has the strength to stand. This guy has ALL the power and Hammer has almost no agency at all left to her, and now he’s suddenly being gracious in allowing her some, albeit with tight restrictions.
This could have been handled much better than it was, and there was NO reason to have Hammer stripped naked aside from yet another stupid showing of the guy’s power over Hammer and how little agency she has. It was needless and stupid, and as such I cannot even think about what the twit is going to do or has planned or whatever.
I’ve been a reader of this comics since 2003, back when I first went over to Japan, and I honestly cannot say if I’m ever going to come back to this comic again. Maybe in a few months I’ll be back, but for now, I’m out.
I wish you guys all the best in writing this and your ventures into short film making, but I have to say that this was a bad move, storywise, and I no longer feel comfortable reading this.
Hi @Jamie Jeans. I’ve been reading since 2003 too, and I’m also hyper-sensitive to pointless abuse of women, in comics or otherwise. This scene is making me squirm like nobody’s business.
However, I think HanSagan is within reason to go this route, for exactly the reason you described. Glasses Ass has ALL the power; making Hammer stand there naked as he acts gracious and generous tells us a lot of subtle (and blatant) things about him. He likes feeling powerful. He understands basic psychology. He understands complex patriarchal psychology. He’s convinced that he’s a good person. He’s a really f*cking insecure douche-nozzle.
Remember that this is a comic about a war. There are, unfortunately, abuses in war. And (correct me if I’m wrong, Hans), I’m pretty sure that if Hammer was male Glasses Ass would have made Dude!Hammer strip just the same, for the same reasons.
I’m sorry you don’t feel comfortable reading this scene. I’m not either. But I’m going to have to disagree that it’s a bad storytelling move.

P.S. I'd also like to note to @Stephen Birce that "shemale,"along with "shim" and "tranny," are highly offensive trans slurs. If you are a decent enough person not to use racial slurs, then don't use trans slurs either. (If you do think it's okay to use racial slurs, well then, f*ck off.)
Actually, on further thought, is anyone else getting the idea that he is REALLY threatened by Hammer’s presence on his ship and will do whatever it takes to get her on his side?
It was still a stupid, useless bit of writing that, for me, spoils the rest of this series. He could have said and done all he did without having her stripped naked. Yes, I know in this story there’s a war going on and that abuses happen. Heck, look at Abu Ghabi, and what recently happened to a Lybian woman who was detained without reason and raped by Lybian forces.
And Glasses Ass Man proved his power over Hammer by holding her hostage for over a year, using her as a HUMAN SHIELD against the Captain, and then leaving her to the tender mercies of his crew, all of whom hate Terrans to some degree or another, let alone that one in particular blames her for the death of her kid. What he did to her was unnecessary and fucking disturbing, and I don’t give a damn if that was the point or within reason or whatever.
Like I said, I’ll be back in a few months, see what else happens. In the meantime, I’m gone. I don’t feel like coming to a webcomic with a sense of dread that almost makes me sick instead of holding my interest.
Rampant levels of butthurt detected. Sorry that this writing takes you outside of your comfort zone. Sorry that your zone doesn’t allow you to accept that A) there are people like this, B) that !BillGates is a powermongering headgamer of the highest order and that C) this was still tastefully done, without the usual fanservice pretext that normally garners an eyeroll.

Again, I have to ask… WHY HAVE HER CLOTHES TAKEN OFF?!
Frak… okay, I'm gone. I gotta cool off and think some more on this before I just write down whatever comes to mind.

To be perfectly honest, I wouldn’t trust this clown not to fart in an elevatior

That pose in the first panel makes me wonder if the jerk is a Shemale.

I don’t think so.
He’s just a fatuous little toad.

As Gobriel Shear said in ‘Swordfish’, comeon Jamie, not everything ends the way you think it should

He had her clothes removed as symbolism of her rebirth – getting rid of her prisoner clothes to get her new ones.
That’s on the face of it. My guess is it’s also intended as a reminder of the power he holds over her.
