I find myself only mildly surprised by this. I think she’ll offer some invaluable piece of advice or help somehow but I’m not totally shocked that she’s opting out. Or this is all a clever ploy to get the eyes off of her so she can join in later. who knows.
long time i not had read it and need back to read, the last time is when valdez get a prank and ect. but not more.. so i need read back to much, wow she is alive i mean that girl????? wow
Well, from a storyline point of view, I guess the decision makes some sense. Although with all the assumptions, having her reappear in an unexpected moment won’t work as well as it would have without this comment-system . I, for one, would probably have not even considered such an intention.
Based on her actual life, however, this only makes sense if she has some sort of unmentioned backup plan that she wanted to pursue, once she had gotten off that future version of wow, if ever. Not entirely unreasonable I guess.
Based on what we DO know, this is her delusions, possibly even her mother’s opinions speaking. Or some bad conscience. Though conflicted about this she does seem be. She doesn’t sound as if she was just putting them off, either, only to go along with it in secret afterwards. Right now she seems to mean what she says. Though it’s feasible she will change her mind eventually (and in secret).
Then again, strangely enough, it would be a stroke of ingenious consequence, to not have her come around. One that probably many (including myself) would hate.
Soo…. all bases covered. All routes still open. Somewhat pointless reflection
I’m going to get my angry, knee jerk reaction out of the way…
You only call them up to tell them how stupid they were and then tell them they’re on their own? Seriously? How much have you changed since your days on the Outcast? How much further into that shell are you going to dive to escape anything like human warmth and contact and friendship? You stupid, selfish, twit! Someone who risked their life for you, who is being tortured pretty regularly, needs your help and Kid and Whiskey, who know their own limitations and have put their own pride aside to come to YOU for help, and you slap them down.
Now that that’s out of the way…
This is totally something I can see Quetz pulling. This doesn’t seem like a duke and jive move to throw the military sniffers off her trail, but an honest attempt to move on with her life and find out just who she is and what she can do on her own. To return to the Terran Navy would be, in her eyes as she sees it now, a surrender to her mother who still acts like Quetz is an extension of herself rather than another person. If anything, Quetz needs this most of all out of all the survivors of Icebreaker Squad.
The other part to her choosing to go out on her own, to not join Kid and Whiskey, is that for as much as she’s changed, in realizing she needs to follow her own path in life, she’s still very much afraid of human connections. I imagine she would have the hardest time of all in seeing Hammer, someone who risked her life for hers when such a thing does not seem to compute in Quetz’s mind. Put aside the happy YAY-ness of Kid and Hammer finding one another, imagine the sheer amount of awkwardness that would occur between Hammer and Quetz.
At this point, and it’s a good indication of the writing on display here, I have NO idea what Quetz is going to do, and I find that, whatever choice she makes, I wish her well either way. She deserves a little bit of peace..
You can’t blame her for acting the way she does. She is going through survivors regret and falling back on the one thing that she knows she is comfortable with, inside her own mind.

Move on to … more wow? She’s kidding right now, right? right?

I get the feeling she’s probably going to feel guilty about that and go for it anyway, if not right away.

Last word not spoken, Mrs. Valdez!
@Peter: Bless you and your family.

Valdez is laying a false trail. Expect the cavalry at an opportune moment

@Derek I agree…
Also funny, the first I read that, I thought she said “Take my own life” and I was like “OMGWTBBQ?!”
Then I re-read it and I was like, “Oh, ok”

(replace ‘…this only makes sense if…’ with ‘…this most believably makes sense if…’

Unfurnitly peace may be the last thing anyone may have because I have a feeling that peace on earth may soon be a thing of the past.

She was also very comfortable being better than others and jerking them around, if i recall correctly. This doesn’t quite fit into the known pattern.
