Or someone didn’t really consider the consequences of a mono-gendered society. I’d be curious if games the likes of wow would emerge at all. I mean I have yet to meet a single woman, that bothered to learn how to program a graphical pipeline. Few enough know how to program anything at all. Chances are with the demise of men would come along the demise of computers and software.
Then again, this would explain why this fictional wow looks so much like the our wow. Chances are it hasn’t been tended to since the plague hit.
I am really digging how in-charge and focused Whiskey has become in this latest story arc. She admits to herself and Kid about how she’s making things up as she goes along, true, but she’s determined, focused, and wants to fulfill what she probably considers her destiny. She’s almost becoming leaderlike, which must be a bit of a shock to Quetz.
And yeah,, I’m going to show my naive nature and say that, like Kid, I have no idea what ERP is.. Futa, I know, but ERP? Not so much.
One of the top network architecture and security folks I know — someone who has given multiple talks at Black Hat — is a woman, Raven Alder. One of the top Arduino hackers out there is a woman named Limor Fried, who goes by the handle ‘Lady Ada’ (in honor of Ada Lovelace).

Well, I did meet the occasional programming woman. Rare but they exist. Graphical programming woman? Not so much, but it’s not like I assume none exist at all. Plus where ever they do come up they usually tend to acquire a certain attention simply by being so excessively rare. Coupled with actual competence would result in outright fame. But don’t fool yourself, we’re talking 5% female computer scientists out there, and a good 4% of those go the theoretical road and never write another line of code in their life. Some assumed sexism or oppression to be the reason, but the women I met were treated fine. Women just don’t seem to want to program or even think in these abstract patterns, for whatever reason.
What I implied up there, was not that no such exist at all, but rather that those that do exist are not sufficient to sustain the demand of hard- and software. Maybe that would change in a female-only society but based on what one can see these days I kinda doubt it. Maybe it would make those women that do code excessively rich.
So say, for argument’s sake, that there weren’t enough women programmers, Woot, after all the men die… don’t you think others would study and step in to fill that demand? Because otherwise you’re coming off as really condescending, especially of women in what was normally a male dominated field.
Frankly dude, your comments are sexist. Just because you did not meet women programmers does not mean they don’t exist and the ones that do work hard in the industry have, from what I’ve read of articles, faced discrimination based solely on their being women. It’s a lot of stupid crap based on gender and normalization of how women ‘supposedly’ cannot handle the math involved or some BS when in reality the attitude of a lot of male students and teachers are backwards thinking and immature.
Sorry if this was mentioned earlier, but…has anyone noticed that Kid’s accent has disappeared? Is the game translating her French thoughts into the native language of each player, which for Whiskey would be English? Does Kid hear Whiskey speaking perfect French? (Okay, likely not “perfect”, considering the unreliability of translation programs, even in the future.) Or is Kid typing or thinking in English, and the talk/text gives a completely neutral accent?
That probably is the case Andor. I think that this is a worldwide access MMORPG game and probably has a Translation Program in it so peeps all over the world can converse with each other.
Greetings I recently finished reading through your site and I am really impressed. I do have some questions for you though. Are you currently intending on doing a follow-up posting on this? Are you going to keep posting as well? Furthermore if you obtain an opportunity will you rate my personal Rappelz web page whenever you have the opportunity?
Woot.
C++ is a dying art. Programmers are putting themselves out of fucking business.
You know why you don’t know many gals who program graphical pipelines? Because it’s fucking depressing to churn out broke-ass shit, spend months locked up eating cold pizza, and Die an early death.
Oh, and this gal is one of those kids who knows how to pack bits, optimize code, and hack the x264 library (I needed the motion vectors).

I love the exchange in the last panel. Heh, way to prioritise, Kid.

Wait, isn’t this a world where there’s only women…? Guess as soon as there’s no men around to be inappropriate, women quickly step in

I could keep going, but… seriously?

ERP is Erotic Role Play, aka cybering. I didn’t know what FUTA was, and now I think I’m sad that I do. x_x

Ahh, nice to know that some things don’t change in Private Chats in the future.

And it’s not limited to computer science either.

I agree whisky has really grown in the last couple of strips. Also quetiz is probable shocked be what she just heard.

I thought I’d seen the depths of stupidity in comments on Shortpacked! strips. Not sure I’m happy to see Woot prove me wrong.
To Youtube! Surely there’s something even worse there!
