I hope a rescue party is being planned – I hate to see Hammer get used as a hostage all the time.

…I have totally lost any fondness for the Captain now.
Dammit.

I think Hammer is Cap’n Robin’s spy. Otherwise she’d of just proceeded as normal. And since the Terran Navy just betrayed her and her crew, she needs the information the Rebles have to try and sort this mess out enough to keep the crew alive and end the situation putting them in danger.

Even apart from any information that the Captain has that is unknown to us, her decision seems reasonable.
Boarding by dropship without adequate fighter cover (remember, they’re few in number, worn out by stress, out of missiles, and probably low on fuel) is a huge risk to take. The opposition is fanatical and numerous (remember that they have the colonists on board), and they’ve shown themselves to be quite prepared to use self-destruct measures when they have no other options. Their leader doesn’t seem to be very courageous, so his continued defiant attitude is a bad sign.
To back off (or at least to *seem* to back off) at this point could well mean the difference between marginal victory and decisive defeat for the Outcast.
