1. the enemy thinks the terrans are evil
2 they have a plan that will be “payback” or w/e
3. they have nothing remarkable on the supposedly derelict ship, except new tech
4. Quetz has found a kitten on the ship, which is also the only non-human in the ship
5. kitty is named karma (which is like payback, basically); see 2
6. nobody thinks “hey, maybe they came up with a yet-unknown plague in/on the kitten”
they are soooo doomed
